If you’ve read our Kajabi review, you’ll know we highly recommend Kajabi for creating and selling online courses.
But how can you actually start building a course? What all you need to do to get your course online?
Well, don’t worry; this comprehensive Kajabi tutorial will walk you through the process step-by-step. Here we’ll cover all the steps for setting up your course, from building your curriculum to creating a sales page.
In the end, we’ll also share some bonus tips to help you make the most of Kajabi’s features.
Let’s get started.
If you want to sell your course on Kajabi, you first have to create an account.
To do that, go to Kajabi.com, and you’ll see a page like the one below. You’ll see a special offer for a 30-day free trial on this page. Click the Claim your free 30-day trial button.
Then, write down your name and email address, create your password, and enter your credit or debit card information to start the free trial.
Once you have completed these steps, your Kajabi account will be ready, and you can start setting up your online course.
After creating your account, Kajabi will take you to your admin homepage, where you can build an online course.
Kajabi’s backend has a clean, intuitive design; you’ll find all the menu options in the left panel.
From here, select Products and then click + New Product.
Kajabi supports four main product types:
Choose the Course option and then click Get Started.
Next, create a title for your course and provide a brief description (optional)l. You can change these later if desired.
You’ll also see an option to generate a sample course outline. If you choose this option, Kajabi’s AI feature will automatically generate a course outline based on your course title and description. It will also create modules and lessons in the course builder.
Lastly, it will ask you to enter a price for your course. Kajabi supports the following options:
If you choose the one-time payment option, write the price the customers will pay in the Price field.
If you want to offer an installment option, write the price and the number of months over which the payment will be completed.
Lastly, for a subscription-based payment model, select the price and frequency your customers will be charged. This pricing option will be useful if you want to run a membership site on Kajabi.
You’ll also see the option to choose your payment gateways (Stripe or PayPal). If you haven’t integrated your gateways, Kajabi will prompt you to do that.
Once you’re done, click Save and Finish to go to the course builder, where you can create the curriculum and upload content to your lessons.
Here you can add modules and lessons to your course and add content.
To add a module, click the Add Content button and select Module.
You can add lessons to your course in a similar way.
However, the quickest way to create lessons and add content is by using the bulk uploader. You can select multiple files and drop them onto the uploader, and Kajabi will automatically turn them into lessons. You can then reorder the lessons as you like.
You can also add content to a lesson through the lesson editor, which you can access by clicking on the lesson name in the course builder.
You can add a video or audio to your lesson, add text content, and attach a downloadable file.
Now, let’s show you how to add a quiz to your course.
Return to the course builder, click Add Content, and select the Quiz option.
This will take you to the quiz editor, where you can add questions and do other settings.
Kajabi supports four quiz question types:
To create an automatically graded quiz, you can work with multiple-choice and checkbox-style questions.
But if you want to create an assignment, the short answer and file upload options will come in handy.
Lastly, you can configure the course delivery options and set how your course modules will become available:
You can access these settings on the course curriculum page. You’ll see that each module has a drop-down menu from which you can enable these options.
After you create the lessons and figure out these course settings, you can start designing your course area.
Having a well-designed course area will go a long way in creating a fantastic end-user experience, and Kajabi lets you customize it and create a unique look and feel for your online course.
It offers multiple course player themes so that you can change the course area design in a single click.
To access the themes, go to the Customize tab in your course menu and click the Install Template button.
The available course player templates include the following:
Some third-party templates are also available, such as the Gamify Lite theme.
You can preview the templates and choose the one that meets your needs.
Now, you can further customize these Kajabi templates.
To do that, go back and expand the Installed Templates section. Here you’ll see the template you just installed.
You can edit the template by clicking the ellipsis icon and selecting the Customize option.
This will take you to the editor, where you can modify the layout and design of the course player.
When you’re happy with the changes, you can move on to creating a sales page for your online course.
You’ll need a sales page to start selling your online course. Fortunately, Kajabi’s website builder includes several landing page templates and a drag-and-drop page builder, making it easy to create a high-converting sales page.
To start building your sales page, go to Website → Pages and navigate to the Landing tab.
Click + New Landing Page, and you’ll see many landing page templates.
Scroll down to the Sales section and click View All to explore all the available sales page templates.
Once you select a template, Kajabi will take you to the page builder, where you can customize the sales page as you like.
It’s a visual page builder, so you can see a real-time preview of your page while editing it.
To add a new section to your page, click Add Section in the left panel. You can then select from the preset sections and add to the page.
To edit a page section, you need to click on the section name in the left panel, and you’ll see all the available options. Watch this video to see how to modify a page section in Kajabi.
After you’re satisfied with the design of your sales page, remember to add the checkout page URL to the CTA buttons on this page.
Once your online course is ready, you should do the final touches and make sure that everything works fine.
By default, your course website is on a Kajabi subdomain (courses.mykajabi.com).
Consider integrating your custom domain if you want to remove Kajabi branding from your URL.
Of course, if you don’t already own a domain, you must first purchase one and deal with the integration afterward.
However, if you already have a domain, go to Settings → Site Details.
Here you’ll find a field called Subdomain, along which you’ll see the Manage Domain option. Click on it, and you can then set up a custom domain.
To connect your domain, you’ll need to point the nameservers to Kajabi. Check out this support article for detailed steps on configuring a custom domain.
Next, you should move on to the basic integrations. Kajabi offers a wide range of integrations with popular marketing tools, but you must do a few essential ones:
To set up these integrations, go to Settings → Third-Party Integrations and select the tool you want to integrate.
Before making your online course public, your final task should be to test the entire purchase flow from a customer’s point of view.
To do that, create a 100% off coupon for your course.
Now, grab the sales page URL and visit it in a private window. Then, apply the coupon on the checkout page and complete the purchase.
This is a great way to test the entire experience from start to finish, catch any issues along the way, and correct them before sharing your course.
After you’ve done this, you can start sharing the course sales page URL with your audience.
So far, we’ve covered the essential steps to create an online course in Kajabi. However, you can take your course up a notch if you follow these bonus tips.
A big reason for Kajabi’s popularity among creators is that it supports several product types, and the most important among them is online communities.
You can use Kajabi Communities to create a learning community for your course.
This is great for adding a social dimension to your course, answering student questions, and keeping them engaged via feed-based discussions, live meetups, group chats, and community challenges.
Another Kajabi feature that can help you enhance your online course is Automations.
Kajabi Automations lets you perform specific actions based on student activity. Here are potential use cases of the tool:
Read our Kajabi Automations guide to learn more about using the tool.
Running a blog and hosting a podcast are great ways to reach new audiences and get them interested in your product offerings.
Fortunately, Kajabi has native tools for blogging and podcasting without having to build a separate website.
The most powerful marketing tool in Kajabi is the Funnels feature.
Kajabi Funnels lets you create end-to-end funnels with landing pages, email campaigns, and product offers.
You have several prebuilt templates, and you can create all types of funnels, including lead magnet funnels, product launch funnels, webinar funnels, etc.
This Kajabi tutorial showed you step-by-step how to create a course on the platform and start selling it. We also covered some stand-out platform features that can help take your course to the next level.
